VH1's "I Love the 70's - Volume II" salutes 1971 and Hollywood Squares and Paul! Contrary to what's said in this clip, many celebrities were given "zingers" but were not privy to the questions beforehand (per Peter Marshall in his book, "Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square".) Several really bad Paul imitations are included. Although I'm a Paul fan, one of the funniest moments of this clip (IMO) is Charo saying "I almost break my ass." Comments include those by Michael Ian Black - a favorite of mine from "Ed". I appreciate MIB even more, since he didn't offer up a lousy Paul imitation! Also (MIB, cover your ears & hum!) yes, many of the zingers were scripted. (Again, according to Peter Marshall's book.) Zoom screenshot | VH1's "I Love the 70's - Volume II" remembers the year 1972 and "The Paul Lynde Show". And more really bad imitations of Paul are included. Comments include those by Michael Ian Black - a favorite of mine from "Ed". I appreciate him even more, since he didn't offer up a lousy Paul imitation! Zoom screenshot | "Queer Duck" is a series of adult themed, cartoon shorts you can watch at Sho.com . The characters are all gay & the four main characters are Queer Duck, Openly Gator, Oscar Wildcat & Bi Polar Bear. A movie was also released on DVD in the summer of 2006. Bi Polar Bear sounds alot like Paul & there are multiple "Paul" references. IE, Bi Polar Bear is "lazy & crazy" (Paul's Broadway hit song, "Kids!" describes kids as "noisy, crazy, sloppy, lazy.") In one scene, Bi Polar Bear says he is watching a Halloween Special. (Paul's Halloween Special is a cult classic.) And finally, Bi Polar Bear has a recurring dream that is straight (so to speak) out of Hollywood Squares! (6 MB) Zoom screenshot | In 1994-1995, Jon Lovitz was the voice behind cartoon character, Jay Sherman. This short lived, adult cartoon series featured Jay Sherman as a film critic. One episode included a nod to "Bewitched" and Uncle Arthur. (2 MB) Zoom screenshot |
